Tangem Wallet or Tangem Ring: Which One Fits Your Lifestyle?

Tangem Wallet

Tangem makes two hardware wallets. One is a card, the other is a ring. They use the same chip, the same app and the same backup system, so the security question is settled before you start. What’s left is a question about how you live: do you want your wallet in your pocket, or on your hand?

Here’s how the Tangem Wallet cards and the Tangem Ring compare in practice.

What they have in common

Both devices hold your private key inside a secure element certified to EAL6+. The key is generated on the chip and never leaves it. You sign transactions by holding the card or ring against your phone, with the Tangem app doing the rest. There’s no battery, no cable and no firmware to update.

Neither needs a seed phrase. Backup is a second and third device that share the same key. Both support the same 90+ networks and 16,000+ tokens in the app, including swaps, staking and dApp connections.

The Tangem Wallet cards

The card is the size and thickness of a bank card and sits in a wallet without you noticing it. It’s waterproof and rated IP69K, and it flexes without damage.

Sets come as two cards (NZ$109.99) or three cards (NZ$139.99), including GST. Three gives you more redundancy and the option of keeping one card somewhere entirely separate, like a parent’s house or a safe deposit box.

Cards suit people who hold rather than spend. If you top up monthly and otherwise leave things alone, a card in a drawer is as secure as it gets, and the lower price buys more backups.

The Tangem Ring

The ring is zirconia ceramic, which is scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic, with the same chip sealed inside. It is also IP69K, so you can shower, swim and wash dishes in it. Because it’s always on you, signing a transaction is a matter of picking up your phone.

The NZ set is one ring plus two backup cards for NZ$320 including GST. So you still get a three-device wallet, with the cards staying at home as backups while the ring does the daily work.

Two practical points. Ceramic can’t be resized, so measure carefully using our sizing guide before ordering. And a ring is more visible than a card. Nobody can take funds from it without your access code, but if you’d rather not have a conversation about what the ring is, the card is more discreet.

Pick the cards if

  • You mostly buy and hold, and touch the wallet a few times a year.
  • You want the most backups for the least money.
  • You’re buying for someone else and don’t know their ring size.
  • You’d prefer nobody knows you hold crypto.

Pick the ring if

  • You send, swap or pay with crypto most weeks.
  • You travel a lot and don’t want a card to lose.
  • You already wear a ring and like the idea of it doing a job.
  • You can measure your size properly before you order.

Plenty of customers end up with both: a ring for daily use and a card set for a long-term stash kept at home. The two are separate wallets, which some people prefer for keeping spending money apart from savings.

Common questions

Are both really hardware wallets?
Yes. Same secure chip, same offline key storage. The ring is just a different housing.

What if I lose one?
Open the wallet with another device from the same set. Each set has at least two.

Do I need the internet?
The card or ring doesn’t. Your phone does, to broadcast the transaction.

How do they compare with Ledger or Trezor?
Comparable chip security, no seed phrase, no screen on the device. We go through the trade-offs in Tangem vs Ledger vs Trezor.

Where do I buy in New Zealand?
Both are in stock in Auckland at tangem.nz, Tangem’s authorised NZ seller. Prices include GST and there’s no import duty to pay on delivery.
