How it works
Setup takes a few minutes and there is nothing to write down.
- Install the Tangem app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Hold the first card to the back of your phone. The app verifies it is genuine.
- Create the wallet. The key is generated inside the card’s chip.
- Tap the other cards in the set to make them backups. Each one becomes a full copy of the wallet.
- Set an access code, then send, receive and manage crypto in the app, tapping a card to sign.
The private key never leaves the chip, so it is never on your phone and never online.
Security features
The card uses a Samsung secure element certified to Common Criteria EAL6+, the same class of chip used in passports and bank cards. The firmware was audited by Kudelski Security and Riscure and can’t be changed after manufacture, which removes the “malicious update” problem entirely.
Because the backup is a second card rather than a written phrase, there is no piece of paper for someone to photograph or for you to lose. Every transaction needs a physical tap plus your access code. And with no battery, screen or USB port, there is very little to fail or to tamper with.

Is a Tangem Wallet safe for storing cryptocurrency?
Yes. Keys are generated and kept in an EAL6+ secure element and never leave it. Since 2017 there has been no reported case of funds taken from a Tangem card through a hardware or firmware flaw. The realistic risks are losing all your cards or being talked into sending funds yourself.
